The length of the treatment would depend on the issue you are working on and the goals of the work. There are two ways of contracting: one is open ended and the other is limited duration. We discuss this at the first session, and decide by mutual agreement. It is important that you come every week within the period that we decide. If you want to terminate the contract, please give me at least three weeks' notice.

The themes for therapy are “change and growth” and “understanding of self”. The work focuses on helping people to find their own resources and using them effectively to grow to their full potential. Exploration of the ‘sense of self’ is an essential element of the work.

My work is informed by an Integrative approach based on the Five Relationship Model, which includes Gestalt, Existential, Psychodynamic, Cognitive Behavioural and Transpersonal from culture-centred perspectives. However, my work has been mostly influenced by Humanistic approaches. I explore cultural issues and how culture affects the therapeutic relationship and clients issues.

The relationship between myself and the client is central to my work. What happens in the dynamics of the relationship between the therapist and client reflects what happens to the client in the outside world. I focus on what is happening between the client and me, and help the client to become more aware of what he/she is doing in the relationship. Together, we identify what is blocking the client from becoming who he/she wants to be and decide on how to change.

The qualities I bring with me to the session are my humanity, humour and sense of self. I also use experiential and creative interventions such as dream, image work, visualisation or pictures.

The first session is the opportunity for both parties to get to know each other. We discuss the issues you bring to the sessions, whether we want to work together, how we want to work and the duration of the treatment. If both parties agree to work together, we will start the treatment and clients are expected to attend every week as long as the contract lasts.

The sessions are confidential. The details are explained at the first session.
